Charges explained
Stock Trading Fees
Equities (Stocks):
Commission: $4.95 per trade
This is the flat fee Vertex charges every time you buy or sell stocks. For example, if you place an order to purchase 100 shares of a company, the cost of the trade will be $4.95 regardless of the value of the stock. This fee is competitive compared to industry standards, making it affordable for both occasional and frequent traders.Real-Time Quotes: Free
Real-time quotes provide up-to-the-second stock prices, allowing you to make timely trading decisions. Vertex offers this service free of charge, ensuring you have access to the latest market data without additional fees.Margin Rates: Starting at 7.25% APR
Margin trading allows you to borrow money from Vertex to buy more stock than you could with just your own funds. This loan comes with an interest rate, which is the Annual Percentage Rate (APR). The starting rate of 7.25% applies to clients with certain account balances, and it may vary based on how much you borrow.
Mutual Funds
Load Funds:
Transaction Fee: $0
Load funds are mutual funds that come with a sales charge (also known as a "load") paid to the fund provider, not to Vertex. When you invest in load mutual funds, Vertex charges no additional fee because it is compensated by the fund company itself.
No-Load Funds:
Transaction Fee: $19.95 per trade
No-load mutual funds don't carry a sales charge, but Vertex charges a transaction fee of $19.95 whenever you buy or sell a no-load fund. This fee is used to cover the administrative costs of executing the trade.Fund Research Tools: Free
Vertex provides powerful research tools to help you analyze and compare mutual funds before investing. These tools allow you to review performance histories, risk levels, fees, and manager profiles, all free of charge.
Options Trading
Commission:
$4.95 per trade + $0.75 per contract
Options trading involves buying or selling contracts that give you the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an asset at a specific price. For each options trade, you pay a base commission of $4.95, plus $0.75 for each individual contract involved in the trade. For example, if you purchase 10 options contracts, your fee would be $4.95 + (10 × $0.75) = $12.45.
Exercise/Assignment Fee: $9.95 per transaction
If you decide to exercise an options contract (i.e., use the right granted by the contract to buy or sell the underlying asset), or if the contract is assigned to you (forcing you to fulfill the terms), there is a $9.95 fee per exercise or assignment.
Initial Public Offerings (IPOs)
IPO Subscription Fee: $0
Vertex provides access to new IPOs (Initial Public Offerings) at no cost. You can subscribe to IPOs (buy shares before they are publicly traded) through Vertex’s platform, and there are no subscription fees. Vertex aims to give clients the opportunity to invest in high-potential companies at the early stages.
